How to enjoy half marathon in health? Tips from the Ambulance Service

Preparation – The Key to Success

Only run if you’re fit. Don’t push yourself if you’re not in good health.

Start hydrating several days before the race. During the run, keep drinking fluids regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

Eat sensibly. Avoid heavy or unfamiliar foods that could upset your digestion.

Keep important information handy. Fill out your online medical card or write essential details—such as allergies or medications—on the back of your race number.

Don’t underestimate the importance of warming up. Before the start, do a light jog and some stretching.

Check the latest weather forecast. Adjust your pace, clothing, and fluid intake according to the current weather conditions.

Pay Attention to Warning Signs

Dizziness, nausea, chest pain, or extreme fatigue are signs that you should slow down and seek help.

Feeling overheated, chills, or confusion may indicate serious conditions like heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Where to Find Us

The Prague EMS will have a Golem module at Old Town Square. Our medical tents will be located at Můstek and Ovocný trh, and ambulance teams will be stationed along the course.

Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Help

If you don’t feel well during the race or at the finish, don’t hesitate to ask medical staff or race organizers for help. You can also call (or ask spectators to call) the emergency services at 155.

Just standing at the starting line is already a small victory. Remember, you don’t have to finish at all costs. If something doesn’t feel right, the bigger win is knowing when to slow down, rehydrate, or seek help—and try again another time.
