Dear citizens of Karlovy Vary,

On Saturday, May 16, the 14th edition of the Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon will take place once again as part of the Mattoni Running Festival Karlovy Vary. Organized under the auspices of the city and regional authorities, the race is part of the RunCzech running league, ranks among the world elite of road races, and represents a major celebration for thousands of runners of all ages.

At 2:00 PM, the Varyáda 10 km Run will start with 1,500 runners participating. This will be followed at 4:00 PM by the dm Family Mile, featuring 3,300 families with children. At 6:00 PM, leading European long-distance runners together with 4,000 participants from across the Czech Republic and abroad will take to the streets for the Mattoni Karlovy Vary Half Marathon.

The races are always a spectacular and exciting event to watch, but they also bring minor inconveniences in the form of necessary traffic restrictions. We greatly appreciate your understanding and tolerance.

Please note that parking will be prohibited along the entire race route (see streets listed below) on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Please help avoid unnecessary inconvenience, including the towing of your vehicle.

ACCESS AND EXIT OPTIONS for areas affected by road closures will be permitted in accordance with instructions and under the supervision of officers of the Czech Police (PČR) and Municipal Police (MP):

• 1 – Tuhnice area
  
  • Západní Street will be closed from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM and subsequently from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
  • Entry to the Tuhnice area from Chebský most is possible until 1:30 PM.
  • Exit from the Tuhnice area between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM is possible only in the direction of KV arena / Meandr Ohře.
  • Entry for residents into the Tuhnice area between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM is possible only from the direction of KV arena / Meandr Ohře.
  • Exit from the Tuhnice area during the Half Marathon via Krymská, Charkovská, Západní towards Chebský most is possible until approximately 6:15 PM and then again after approximately 7:20 PM.

• 2 – Krále Jiřího area
  
  • On race day, exit from the Krále Jiřího area will be possible via Dr. Davida Bechera Street (crossing permitted upon instruction from Municipal Police officers), Jaltská – Dr. Engla (crossing permitted upon instruction from Police officers) – náměstí Republiky – Chebský most during the 10 km race until approximately 2:15 PM and after approximately 2:45 PM, and during the Half Marathon until approximately 6:30 PM and after approximately 8:00 PM. From Friday, May 15, 6:00 PM to Saturday, May 16, 11:59 PM, entry to and exit from Zahradní Street will be managed via two-way traffic through Sadová Street.

• 3 – Závodní area
  
  • Closure of Závodní Street and Kpt. Jaroše Street (in the section Závodní – Dvorský most) from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
  • Throughout the entire period, access to and from the OC Varyáda shopping centre from Chebská Street via Kpt. Jaroše Street will be maintained.
  • There will be no access to or from the regional authority building and surrounding buildings.
  • Access to the Dvory area will be possible via 1. máje Street.

• 4 – Lázeňské area
  
  • Zahradní Street, Sadová (section between Zahradní and Lázeňský most), Mlýnské nábřeží, Lázeňská (section between Mlýnské nábřeží and Mlýnský most), Mlýnský most, Vřídelní (section between Mlýnský most and I. P. Pavlova), Karla IV., and I. P. Pavlova will be closed from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM.
  • Tržiště Street, Stará louka, Mírové náměstí, Festivalový most, Mariánskolázeňská (section from Lázně I to Nová louka), Nová louka, Divadelní náměstí, and Vřídelní will be closed from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, then open from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, and subsequently closed again from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

• 5 – Plzeňská, Studentská area
  
  • From 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, entry to and exit from Plzeňská Street, U Podjezdu, Pod Lesem, Novotuhnická, from KV arena, and from Studentská Street (from Doubský most towards Karlovy Vary, as well as from Strmá Street) will not be possible. Traffic across Doubský most will be maintained in a shuttle (alternating) system.

• 6 – Meandr Ohře leisure area
  
  • Entry to and exit from the area will not be permitted from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

• 7 – Exit from the parking area on Západní Street
  
  • It will be possible throughout the entire period via the Terminal at nám. Republiky and then in the direction of Horova Street.

From 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM and from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, drivers will not be able to travel from Zámecký vrch to Divadelní náměstí or vice versa. The spa centre (LÚ) will need to be bypassed via Na Vyhlídce Street. These times may be adjusted depending on the current situation.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICE DISRUPTION – NOTICE FOR PASSENGERS

• LINE 4 – From 8:00 PM, the stops I. P. Pavlova and Lázně III will not be served.

SATURDAY, MAY 16, 2026

• LINE 1 – From 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, the stops Doubský most, Krajský úřad, Říční, Závodiště, Dvory, and Moser will not be served. The line will operate between U Kapličky and Sklářská via a direct diversion route (Chebská Street).
  
• LINE 2 – From 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM and from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the stops Lázně I and Divadelní náměstí will not be served. The line will terminate at Richmond stop.
  From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the stops Sanssouci, Švýcarský Dvůr, Richmond, Lázně I, and Divadelní náměstí will not be served. The line will terminate at Lanovka Imperial stop.
  From 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, the stops Náměstí Dr. Horákové, Jízdárenská, Moskevská, Šumavská, and Stadion ZM will not be served. During this time, the line will operate between Tržnice and MATTONI Arena and back via the bypass road. From 5:00 PM to 9:15 PM, the stops Náměstí Dr. Horákové, Jízdárenská, Moskevská, Šumavská, Stadion ZM, and MATTONI Arena will not be served. During this time, the line will operate between Tržnice and OC Varyáda and back via the bypass route, continuing via Rozcestí u Koníčka and Sklářská stops. The 9:15 PM service from OC Varyáda to Tržnice will exceptionally run via Západní Street.
  
• LINE 3 – From 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the stops Dolní nádraží, Západní, and Stadion ZM will not be served. During this time, the line will operate via Elite, Pivovar, and Keramická škola stops.
  
• LINE 4 – Throughout the entire day, the stops I. P. Pavlova and Lázně III will not be served. From 1:30 PM, the line will be completely out of service.
  
• LINE 6 – From 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, the stops Dolní nádraží, Nám. Dr. Horákové, Jízdárenská, Moskevská, Šumavská, Západní, and Stadion ZM will not be served. The line will operate between Tržnice and MATTONI Arena and back via the bypass road. From 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the stops from Dolní nádraží to U Zámečku will not be served. The line will operate via the bypass route, continuing through Rozcestí u Koníčka and Sklářská (Chebská Street) to/from Svatošská stop. Services passing OC Varyáda will enter the stop and then return to the bypass route via Chebská Street. The 9:19 PM service from Tržnice to Doubí will exceptionally run via Západní Street.
  
• LINE 11 – From 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM and from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the stops Lázně I and Divadelní náměstí will not be served. The line will terminate at Richmond stop. From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the stops Sanssouci, Švýcarský Dvůr, Richmond, Lázně I, and Divadelní náměstí will not be served. The line will terminate at Lanovka Imperial stop.
  
• LINE 12 – From 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the stops Dolní nádraží – terminál and Dolní nádraží will not be served. The line will terminate at Tržnice.
  
• LINE 20 – Service will end at 1:30 PM. TOURIST TRAIN – will not operate.

RAIL SERVICE INTERRUPTION between Karlovy Vary dolní nádraží and Karlovy Vary – Březová stations will be replaced by substitute bus transport from 5:50 PM to 8:45 PM. This applies to train service Os 27178 (České dráhy, a.s.) and services 7110, 7113, and 7112 (GW Train Regio, a.s.).

Parking options

It is necessary to arrive at the official parking areas well in advance, as the number of spaces is limited. It is recommended to park on the outskirts of the city and travel to the Running Expo or the start by public transport, which is free on race day. The organiser is not responsible for changes in parking operators’ conditions, nor for their available capacity or pricing.

From 1:30 PM, vehicle access to streets near the Running EXPO at the Thermal Hotel will be closed.
