A sensation in the running world! Unprecedented demand for the Generali Prague Half Marathon 2026 breaks records!
Start numbers for next year’s Generali Prague Half Marathon sold out in record time. Just four hours after registration opened, all entries were sold out – nearly seven months ahead of race day. With nearly 100,000 runners trying to secure an entry, demand was nothing short of overwhelming. That’s almost five times the event’s capacity.
Compared to last year, the difference is striking. Back then, registrations also sold out quickly, but it took about four weeks. This year, it was a matter of hours,” said Carlo Capalbo, President of the RunCzech Organizing Committee.
With a maximum capacity of 17,000 participants, the Generali Prague Half Marathon is the largest running event in the Czech Republic. Organizers set this limit carefully, prioritizing runner safety and comfort, as much of the course winds through the Prague’s historic center and its charming medieval streets.
The Prague Half Marathon has long been a stage for world-class performances. It holds the prestigious World Athletics Elite Road Races Label status and ranks among the most highly regarded half marathons globally. Historic records have been set here multiple times. In 2017, Joyceline Jepkosgei stunned the running world by finishing in 1:04:52, becoming the first woman ever to break the 65-minute barrier. Three years later, fellow Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir clocked 1:05:34, setting a women-only world record. In 2024, world champion Sabastian Sawe of Kenya claimed victory with 58:24 – a time that topped the world rankings for nearly half a year.
The event’s international appeal remains strong. Runners from 107 countries secured their spot through the registration system, many of them pursuing the challenge of completing all six European races in the SuperHalfs series – a project founded and headquartered in Prague. The series also includes Lisbon, Berlin, Copenhagen, Cardiff, and Valencia.
The Generali Prague Half Marathon will celebrate its 26th edition on Saturday, March 28, 2026, once again under the World Athletics Elite Road Race Label. For those who missed regular registration, there will still be a chance to obtain a bib number through RunCzech’s official charity partners. Full details will be announced on RunCzech’s social media channels.
Meanwhile, the new RunCzech running season kicks off with the Prague Airport Valentine’s Run in Prague in February, followed by the ORLEN Prague Marathon at the beginning of May and a series of traditional spring events, including the trio of Mattoni Running Festivals in Karlovy Vary, České Budějovice, and Olomouc.
