Napoli Running celebrated its return to in-person events with a successful Sorrento Positano in December 2021, a perfect inspiration for the Napoli City Half Marathon, scheduled for 27 February 2022.
The organizing team is preparing to welcome 4,000 runners – with full support of the City of Napoli, the World Athletic Federation, European Athletic Federation, and Italian Athletic Federation. Finally, we will be running together in Napoli once again!
Runners can still register for the race with about 800 registrations to spare. The deadline for the registrations is 23rd February.
In sporting terms, the Napoli Running team was able to recruit male athletes who will be racing at a very significant 59:15 level – an exciting field to be announced next week. The Italian Yemaneberhan Crippa, fully immersed in training in Kenya, will be attempting to break Italian National record (1:00:07, Eyob Faniel, Siena 2021). “I can’t wait to come and run in Naples. I’m happy to have this new debut in Italy and even more so in great race like in Naples. For sure I’ll be physically ready and I hope to have fun. I want to have good sensations, I know it’s a very fast race,” said Crippa.
Julien Wanders is expected to race Yemaneberhan, out of training for a marathon debut in April; and it is also expected that we will have a deep and exciting race at 62:00 – 63:00 level. “I am looking forward to coming to Naples to run because I love the Italian culture. Moreover, my coach Renato Canova, who is Italian, told me all the good things he thinks about this competition,” added Wanders.
When it comes to the women’s race – a competitive and balanced field will be announced next week, with athletes from Italy, Kenya, Ethiopia, Germany and Norway.
The race starts at 9:00 am in J.F. Kennedy Street, with 26 minutes reportage to be broadcasted on worldwide.
“We love to organize races here in Napoli – it’s an ideal city for running. We want to point out that the date has been chosen accordingly and we hope attendance will exceed our expectations, because Napoli has so much to offer. The weather is very good during this period, so we expect very fast times. It could be one of the most exciting races in Italy in recent years,” noted Carlo Capalbo, the president of the organizing committee.
