Pacer Etiquette

Did you know that pacers also follow a set of rules known as “pacer etiquette”? We’re introducing them to you here, and trust us, for pacers themselves, these rules are like an unwritten law. Breaking any of them is definitely not tolerated within the team! 🙂

  1. A pacer must be a fit and experienced runner.
  2. A pacer must be an excellent communicator with other runners.
  3. A pacer must be able to offer advice on both race strategy and mental preparation.
  4. A pacer must follow and encourage others to follow the principles of fair play.
  5. A pacer must never consider themselves superior to others and must respect all runners equally.
  6. A pacer must maintain a positive attitude, smile and spread joy.
  7. A pacer must never compete against the other runners.
  8. A pacer must be able to maintain a steady pace throughout the entire race.
  9. A pacer is a role model for many runners, and their behaviour must reflect this responsibility.
  10. A pacer is only human, too, and may occasionally face the same challenges as other runners.
