The starting shot at the Prague International Marathon was taken by the most esteemed guest. More than seven thousand runners were set on their way from Wenceslas Square onto the 42-kilometre course by President Petr Pavel. He did not want to miss one of the most prestigious races in the world, although he only just returned to the Czech Republic after two busy days in London, where he and his wife Eva attended the coronation of King Charles III. "The marathon is an amazing discipline. Sporting events of this kind are a huge opportunity to show our country to the world and in this case in the best light. All the competitors have my great respect," said President Pavel, who also met the chairman of the RunCzech organizing committee, Carlo Capalbo, at the start. "It is a great honour for us that President Pavel started the marathon and with his participation supported not only our race but the sport as a whole," Carlo Capalbo added.

But the last kilometers were difficult," said Mutiso, who was part of the CEZ Group team in the Battle of the Teams. The most prestigious Czech sporting event is almost here, as the 27th Prague International Marathon will take place on May 7. And the organizers have great news about this year‘s edition: Thousands of runners will set off on the world's most beautiful 42 kilometers from the Wenceslas Square. "Compared to previous years, when the race start was at the Old Town Square, we have now managed to arrange with Prague representatives to start in the lower part of Wenceslas Square, at Můstek, which brings several advantages. The main ones are the strategic location and even more space and comfort for our runners," said Carlo Capalbo, President of the RunCzech organizing committee, which has risen to first place in the number of races awarded with World Athletics Labels.

The Battle of the Teams has become for many runners a special race because it turns a traditionally individual sport into a team event. A sport that connects professional athletes who have often been fierce competitors in the past. A sport which connects their teams with hobby runners who are participating in the Prague International Marathon. The unique teams made their debut last year as part of The Prague International Marathon and will continue the tradition this year. There will be five teams - the defending champions from Generali Česká pojišťovna together with ČEZ Group, Mattoni, Prague Airport and also Rohlik.cz. Each will soon introduce its captain. Once they have been named, the Marathon´s All runners (hobby runners) will get the opportunity to join a team of their choosing, based on who they think will finish with the fastest collective time. They will get a number of incentives to run their best race and, most importantly, they’ll get a chance to support various charity organizations. The Prague International Marathon starts on Sunday 7 May.

The Kenyan Benard Kimeli or Irine Jepchumba Kimais, who set a great time of 1:04:37 in Barcelona, belong to the main favourites this year. Czech top runners will be also present, led by Jiří Homoláč or Moira Stewart. The race will be broadcasted by CT Sport or can be watched via Pulse.tv streaming.
