Petr Vabroušek is well and truly a diehard athlete. And this year he’s decided to take on the Volkswagen Prague Marathon.

You recently completed a unique project involving seven marathons across seven continents during seven days. How was that?

It was incredibly difficult but I prepared for it and had counted on it being tough. Overall it was a completely unforgettable experience which ended beautifully. My legs were a mess by the last marathon in Sydney and I struggled to walk properly for around a week. After ten days, though I was back running and after thirteen already able to run ten kilometres cross-country.

What was your most powerful experience from this extreme race?

Each moment from the entire week. We started in the Kingdom of Ice and Snow in Antarctica through the raw elements and rain of Chile, followed by lovely sunshine on Miami Beach. In Madrid we were reacquainted with the cold wind, only to face yet another huge in Morocco. I had to really battle on to make up my lost position in scorching Dubai and night-time Sydney.

You’ll be taking part in the Volkswagen Prague Marathon after seven years away. How ambitious are you about it?

The race is scheduled for just one week after the Ironman in Taiwan so I’m not looking for an amazing result. But I’m pleased to be taking part. The atmosphere in Prague is always fantastic. And to top it off, my son is running the relay with his school, so we’ll get to be on the course together again.

What do you think about the RunCzech Running League races?

Great courses in attractive locations and excellent organisation. I think it offers an experience for runners and spectators alike. My personal bests in the marathon (2:31:34) and half marathon (1:12:46) took place in Prague.
