Tyfloservis o.p.s.
Tyfloservis, o.p.s. is a nationwide not-for-profit organisation helping integrate blind and severely visually impaired individuals into normal life. Loss or serious deterioration of sight involves a great many changes to a person’s life. Otherwise everyday tasks suddenly become difficult and work is affected. Greater demands are placed on relationships in the family, with friends and other people. For this reason, those with a visual impairment frequently feel marginalised by society considering it impossible to fully partake in a normal life. It is necessary to take action at this stage since many difficulties can be overcome more easily if they know what to do.
At Tyfloservis, o.p.s. we offer assistance to those afflicted with severe visual impairment to a self-sustaining and independent life. With the aid of instructors, blind and visually impaired individuals can learn to move around freely with a white stick, also picking up skills to look after themselves (for instance how to cook , wash, care for themselves and children without sight), to read and write in Braille, write on a computer keyboard. At the same time they also learn about the various types of compensation and rehabilitation aids which greatly facilitate their difficult life situation (e.g. TV camera magnifiers etc.) Each year the organisation offers this kind of support to approximately 2 500 blind and severely visually impaired clients. Based on skills acquired this way, they may lead a more self-sufficient and independent life.
