The Committee of Good Will – Olga Havel Foundation
Let us conjoin the pleasant with the meaningful and become one of the Runners of Good Will. The financial gain gathered by you will be used in order to purchase health and compensatory equipment (wheel chairs, hearing aids, etc.) for handicapped children as well as adults. During the course of last 6 years, the Runners of Good Will earned more than CZK 3 million and we could help more than 200 handicapped people that way.
Why do we help?
- Handicap goes hand in hand with great physical and mental harm of disabled persons as well as their families
- When we help to buy medical aids which enable handicapped people to attend school, to be employed, to communicate with friends, then we improve the quality of live to those who have to live with a handicap permanently
- Aids which handicapped people need for their basic needs are very expensive and they usually cannot afford them. For instance:
One wheelchair costs 70-80 thousand CZK, health insurance companies cover these expenses once in five years, while a child may need a new wheelchair every two years;
People who use wheelchairs need at least two of them: one for interior and another one for outdoor activities, while health insurance companies cover the costs of one wheelchair only;
One hearing aid costs 20-25 thousand CZK, while health insurance companies contribute 5000 CZK per 1 hearing aid once in 5 years only.
Where does the money from the Collection go?
- Purchasing wheelchairs, hearing aids, compensation aids and other medical aids
- Supporting non-profit organizations which provide services to handicapped children and adults (e.g. barrier-free living)
The Committee of Good Will – Olga Havel Foundation has been assisting people in need in the Czech Republic already for 25 years. The organization was originally founded by Olga Havel, the First Lady and wife of President Vaclav Havel. She herself defined the main purpose of the committee as follows:
„We wish that the right for dignified life is also enjoyed by those who live with handicap or mental illness, abandoned and old people, those who have a different skin colour or a different way of life, those in poverty or attacked by a malignant disease.“
